The Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Corporate Accounting to lead the corporate accounting function for the company. This role will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining robust accounting close procedures, standardizing recording and reconciliation processes, driving integration of key financial operations, and consolidating results across our portfolio companies. The ideal candidate thrives in a complex, fast-paced environment and has proven experience establishing excellent accounting operations in a multi-entity or roll-up environment.
This position will require significant interaction with the entire organization. The ideal candidate is someone who has a strong work ethic and brings instant credibility because of his or her experience and accomplishments. He/she must be able to address technical and business questions and have the interpersonal skills to guide stakeholders throughout the entire accounting cycle.
Key Competencies
- Drive the standardization and eventual consolidation of certain accounting functions and processes and the chart of accounts across all entities, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies and reconciliation procedures
- Establish consolidation procedures for non-integrated companies to ensure accurate financial reporting in preparation of integration
- Support the financial reporting function including reporting to internal and external stakeholders and debt covenant compliance calculations
- Partner with valuation experts and external auditors to account for acquisition activity including purchase accounting entries, opening balance sheet calculations, valuations of intangibles, and post-close adjustments
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing corporate accounting team potentially across multiple locations
- Train employees on NetSuite functionality and general ledger recording and reconciliation procedures
- Lead a general ledger review process to ensure accurate coding of transactions, including general ledger account, location, subsidiary, and department dimensions along with sufficient description information to provide clarity to users
- Drive the automation of routine accounting processing utilizing AI or existing functionalities within NetSuite
- Perform and document technical accounting research around critical accounting policies and complex transactions
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits and tax reporting requirements and documentation requests
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and scalable internal controls to ensure data integrity and compliance
- Support integration planning and execution for new acquisitions
- Develop talent and create clear career paths for team members
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration without physical proximity
The Successful Applicant
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a manager-level role or above
- Strong understanding of accounting close best practices, internal controls, and accounting principles
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or equivalent experience)
- Strong proficiency with NetSuite, required
- CPA license (or equivalent), required
- Property management accounting experience, strongly preferred
- Experience in a multi-entity, roll-up, or private equity-backed environment, a plus
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present at company-wide meetings or forums
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
